Dental insurance is one of the top benefits that companies offer to attract and retain employees since everyone visits the dentist on a regular basis. Dental plans help offset the costs of dental expenses for employees. Services are usually grouped into 4 categories: preventive, basic, major and orthodontic. Common policy variations include: deductibles, annual maximum benefits, child and adult orthodontia, periodontal coverage at 80% or 50%, preferred provider discounts, and provider reimbursement (called Usual, Customary, and Reasonable or UCR). Employers often times contribute to the cost of dental coverage for employees, and contributions for family coverage vary by employer’s size and industry.
